About MCP

What is the Model Context Protocol? From the MCP website:

MCP is an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context to large language models (LLMs). Think of MCP like a USB-C port for AI applications. Just as USB-C provides a standardized way to connect your devices to various peripherals and accessories, MCP provides a standardized way to connect AI models to different data sources and tools. MCP enables you to build agents and complex workflows on top of LLMs and connects your models with the world.

Anthropic introduced MCP to make it easier for developers to integrate third-party web services with Anthropic’s products. The simplicity and flexibility of MCP ignited wider interest. It is now a de facto standard protocol supported by many AI service providers and open-source AI tools. Recently, the formation of the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation was announced to promote the growth and standardization of MCP and related agent technologies.
